CEO, Founder
Mariam Helmy is a double major in Creative Writing and Psychology at USC’s Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, as well as a Musical Studies Minor at The Thornton School of Music. She is the founder and current manager of Songs for Children, a company that came out of her need to give her singing a purpose. Prior to coming to USC, Mariam spent a year as a vocal performance student at The Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where the idea for Songs for Children took root. Mariam has performed in all of Songs for Children’s productions, her favorite being her role as “Laeticia” in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief. Additionally, she has performed at Lincoln Center under the direction of Alan Gilbert, and with USC's Concert Choir at Walt Disney hall, with James Colon. After graduating, Mariam hopes to work in psychology research and write professionally, as well as continuing to fundraise through performance.

Sarah Jones is a sophmore studying Film and Television Production with a minor in Business Administration. She is a member of Sigma Delta Tau and on the Excutive Board for Women of Cinematic Arts. She was involved with theater in high school, but, unlike all of these other talented folks, cannot sing a lick, so primarily worked on the crew. She is excited to be involved in Songs for Children's Say Goodbye to Hollywood: Concerts for the Classics by building this website, working with the promotion team, and helping with the physical production.

Sophia Christel, Soprano, graduated from Stanford this year with a degree in environmental science, though her voice teacher, Wendy Hillhouse, continually encouraged her to at least minor in music. Alas, music has no mention on her diploma, but Sophia still finds great pleasure in singing, especially when it brings joy (and health!) to others. When she isn’t singing, Sophia enjoys birdwatching, hiking and leading educational tours at Stanford’s biological preserve, and thinking about superheroes. Sophia is happy to say that her mother is not hatching wings of any kind, deathly or otherwise.

Thomas McAulay is a rising junior at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. He is majoring in – of all things – Theatre, which has been the dominant influence in his life since he was a child. For years, he has had a close relationship with the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre as an actor, volunteer, crewmember and recently as a Production Assistant. His favorite roles there include Geppetto in Pinocchio, Fagin in Oliver!, and the Baker from Into The Woods Jr. Theatre’s status in his life is never entirely secure, however, since it must grapple with a host of other contenders including but not limited to juggling, music, poetry, politics, linguistics and history.

Dennis Mashevsky is Dennis Mashevsky's name. He is going into his Sophomore year at NYU studying drama. This will be his third concert with Songs For Children, and now he is wondering why he is typing in the third person. Hello, I'm Dennis Mashevsky, welcome to my bio. If you scroll up you will see a picture of my face which I took...now at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center preschool where I work in the summers. I'm only half Jewish on my Dad's side, so the Orthodox Jews dismiss me. Thanks for donating!
